What Makes us Different?
Hiring The Art of Excellence is like having your own personal trainer.
Our custom-built programs are designed specifically for your organization, and this guarantees results. We offer leaders and managers the most effective tools for reaching goals, attaining optimum results, and building "excellence" in the workplace.
Too much money is spent these days on courses and workshops that provide great information but fail to bring the information into the "real world"; the learning is lost and/or the implementation process poses problems that can't be answered with the limited information obtained.
Our unique approach not only offers training, but most importantly, guides, supports, and coaches leaders and managers on the "how to" putting into practice the concepts learned. These concepts are the essence of a successful workplace, and your organization deserves to be the best it can possibly be. Why settle for bronze when you can have gold? With the right trainer, gold is possible.
As with a personal trainer, you get results: our support and guidance ensure that these results last long-term.
In addition, you will be very clear as to the skills you are looking for when recruiting new managers and/or staff. These recruits will support the culture you have created, a culture that fosters excellence. Having a training model specific to your organization will ensure that your vision is always respected, on track, and working its magic.
Workplace Enrichment Philosophy
Working in a place that is “Ship Shape”!
We use the “ship shape” analogy throughout the workplace excellence philosophy in order to highlight meaning and deepen understanding.
- The person provides the energy:
When people know how to tap into their personal and professional resources, the workplace benefits with healthy, happy individuals who are present and motivated. Workers at all levels are eager and able to do a great job. We teach people to tap into personal and workplace resources, to set up healthy boundaries, and to develop the integrity that creates a high level of job satisfaction. These individuals bring to the business a quality of energy that every employer then wants!
The Ship Shape Principle: When you are on a ship, if your crew is sick with scurvy, dying off one by one or laid out on the bottom of the boat unable to get out of bed, your ship isnt going anywhere! There is a new generation of crew that wants to be involved in the process, fulfilled by their work, recognized for their contributions. When they are committed to their role, enjoying their job and giving you the best they have to offer, your ship is running ship shape! So why not create that?
- The leaders provide the coaching, guiding and modeling:
We want to be managing money, not people. Yet leaders and managers rarely get to learn how to coach and guide people towards giving their best. Using the right language and approach will change a work environment from frustration to celebration. When a leader, manager, and/or supervisor is able to model accountability and the behaviors that bring out the best in the staff, everyone benefits – and so does the bottom line.
The Ship Shape Principle: When the captain brings out the best in people, your crew is on board. When the crew trusts the captain, they can easily trust a sudden change in direction or plan. They will pull together and follow the captains lead and ask questions later. If the crew doesn't trust their captain, there may be a mutiny on board! Not something conducive to the ever-changing work world realities! Also, when trust is in the culture, the first mate can easily take over and the crew will follow easily. Captains and first mates need to be top notch trustworthy and trust creating leaders that bring out the best in people for the boat to run ship shape!
- The policies and procedures provide the structure:
Are your policies and procedures actually doing what you want them to? Are they respecting, reflecting, and encouraging the culture you want to create in your business? We help you develop policies and procedures that do exactly what you want them to do…creating a structure that enhances the highest standards, top quality, respect and results.
The Ship Shape Principle: When people are committed, the leaders on the ship are bringing out the best in people and creating trust, all is well. What else is needed? Well, if your boat doesn't have the right structure, it will leak and we are afraid to tell you, it will sink! This is perhaps why so much time and energy is spent in the wonderful world of HR to build in structures to support the work. Without these structures, the boat won't make it. What we have found for a workplace to be ship shape is that the structure actually supports the mission, vision, values and culture. If you are traveling from the U.S. to Alaska, from Canada to Australia, from New Guinea to South America you wouldn't take a speed boat (please!) You also wouldn't use a ship the size of the Titanic to take a few friends out on the water for a half hour cruise on a small lake at camp! If your structure isnt supporting your specific needs, and the standards you are hoping to establish, your boat will suffer from potentially dangerous leaks!
- Together, these create a work culture:
When all three of these above aspects – people tapping into their personal energy, leadership and effective policies and procedures – are working in your best interest and doing what you actually want them to do, the result is a work culture that makes you the employer of choice. You have the reputation that you want and the results you are looking for; quality people want to work for you.
The Ship Shape Principle: When all three of the above areas are present, you have created the ship shape principle. When your people are fulfilled and committed, your leaders are building trust and bring out the best in people and your structure is solid and well matched, you are creating a work culture where people love to work! What are the benefits and rewards? Your pocket books, purpose, product and/or clients will all be abundant and smiling. (Yes your pocket book can bring a smile...you know what were talking about!)
How long does shifting the culture take? It takes commitment and 6 months to three years! If you are a small company, you may operate like a speedboat and can move forward quickly and change directions quite easily. When you are as large as the Titanic, you need to give yourself time to negotiate those turns! There is so much more involved and so many people to get working together and on board. All in all, having a ship shape workplace is a wonderful place to work and to lead. Why not create it? Others have and are wondering what took them so long to decide to get on board!
